I won't offer any advice on size since that's a bit subjective but I will offer some advice on backup. When deciding what size and how many drives to buy spend most of your time thinking about your backup plan. Once you've settled on that then go get the drives.
I recently lost the 500gb drive in my 07 iMac. That's where my Aperture library was. My advice on backup is to keep it simple and redundant. I don't archive SD cards nor save non-keepers. What I did though was let Time Machine backup my Aperture Library (I manage all photos in Aperture) and I kept Aperture vaults on two seperate external hardrives. (So there are 4 drives involved already...5 if you count the one I left at my parents over Christmas as an offsite). Moral of the story. I put a new HD in the iMac (1TB WD Cavier Green) and got back every single bit of data and every photo with no issues. Luckily I had updated the vaults and had not taken any new photos before the HD crash.
BTW, I do the same for family home movies. They are all digital and the thought of loosing them is unfathomable.
Personally I believe a backup strategy is priority one no matter if you are noob or a seasoned pro. Those shots mean something to you and if you loose them they are gone forever.

@comex well considering how buggy iOS 4.3.1 is => broken Wifi, broken VPN, broken ... Apple has to release 4.3.2 soon :P
Maybe they will delay the iPad 2 JB till after 4.3.2 is released.

And good riddance. VPC, Office Mac and Macromedia Studio 8 under Rosetta are the only apps I've found that can do an accurate job of emulating OS X running as sluggish as Windows.

i've read a few..
apple confidential - good book, but i think it's bit of an information overload. the layout is kinda odd - i can't remember, but i don't think it was chronological. and plus there was little 'facts' splattered all over the page. i think
icon - this one was okay. i was looking forward to this one (maybe because it actually has a decent cover?). anyway, it didn't disappoint. i liked it because it was much more up to date than the others (and therefore covered apple & steve's recent success)
the second coming of steve jobs - i bought this as an audiobook and i've listened to it a few times. very interesting. (although maybe i liked it because it was being read to be and i'm lazy? who knows..)
anyway, i have apple confidential handy. if you want to borrow it to read let me know, jack.

There's co-ordinates and other GPS related meta-data already in iPhoto 6.
See-http://stashbox.org/997/gpsmetadata_iphoto6.x.jpg
I bet Apple isn't going to release a hardware based GPS add-on anytime soon, but via software plug-ins-Google Maps or other earth/mapping sites.
PhotoSynth type technology in iPhoto would be amazingly cool.

I think you have that wrong - slightly - they're shutting down the ESPN thing...
"The Walt Disney Co. will spend about $30 million to shut down its Mobile ESPN wireless telephone services, but remains "excited" about its family-oriented Disney Mobile phone service, Disney Chief Financial Officer Tom Staggs said on Monday."
Ah - this makes more sense. The ESPN thing always did seem a little over the top to me...

Well I waited with about 100 people in front of me and then the Apple people started passing out those tickets. When they got to me they said they didn't get any AT & T ones in. That seemed strange. At least I found out before I waited all that time.

hows the quality compare to when you stream at home? Assuming vpn connection to the internet is slower
Over 3G the quality is less. Over wifi it's very clear.

I was at work, and someone said that the news was reporting that a plane had hit one of the Towers. We all thought maybe a small plane had lost control or something. A little bit later, someone said the other tower got hit. Then we knew. We had a small set playing ABC, with at least 50 people hunched around it at all times throughout the day. I saw the first tower fall live. After the Pentagon was hit, and there were reports of a 4th plane still in the air, quite a few were freaking out, as we are located between PA. and DC.
I had to stay at work. Got home around 6.00p and stayed horrifically glued to the boob tube all night long.
Blue, I was looking at the clock and thinking of starting a thread just like this one. Glad I checked new posts first.

Selling 15 billion dollars worth of iPhone 5's in the fourth quarter seems pretty significant.
Again there is no good reason Apple needs to rush out a new iPhone model in the summer. The iPhone 4 is still the best smart phone out there, and will be until the 5 comes out.
That being said, if they do push it back, I don't know that the iPhone 6 comes out 6 months later. I find that unlikely.
Not me. Ka-ching.
Unless you are the IRS that makes no sense. If you are getting money back, it is because you gave the US government an interest free loan. Not exactly something to celebrate.
The question is how many people want to have a bigger phone? I don't know if it will be bigger or not but I don't think a bigger sized phone is a always a good idea. Not saying a small increase in screen size (not resolution) will not happen I just don't want my iPhone becoming an iPad mini!
I have already discounted the idea that the next iPhone will have a bigger screen. It is just not going to happen. It is illogical. People think 4" is better, but it really impacts the form factor and portableness of the device. Other phones have gone to a bigger screen because they realized they can't sell much just copying the iPhone, so they try to come up with some ways to be different, unfortunately they keep picking things that don't necessarily make the device better.

His political song and comments at the end of the Keynote made me laugh. Only when you're at that stage in life can you get away with something like that.
He's been doing it all his life. Randy Newman is one of my heroes. I've been to so many of these keynotes and I had to miss this one!

I am a television news story producer.
I tend to be editing video projects on my Powerbook, however I have run into a little bit of a snag and that is that I can not always leave my Powerbook "open" while it is rendering as I need to run to a series of meetings throughout the day.
Is it possible to set some option somewhere that will prevent my Powerbook from going to sleep?
It would sure make my life a whole lot easier, rather than needing to pause a render, close my PB, walk down the hall for a meeting, pop it back open, restart the render, open Pages and start taking notes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The PowerBook can be made to run whilst closed, mainly in cases of running it with external kb,mouse and display. However you shouldn't need to pause a render when you close the lid, it should just stop and kick off again when you open the lid.

Please DON'T give me the answer on this problem but help me understand the question better. It is a take home quiz due tomorrow.
I don't know what a 'subscript' is that it refers to in this T or F Question.
Q: " An Array is a collection of elements of the same type referenced by a single name and one or more SUBSCRIPTS. The SUBSCRIPTS may be of different types as long as they are ordered. True or False"
Thanks,
-Lars
