As before, that support is entirely derived from ATI's GPUs and the available number of outputs.

You can get 5 Mini-DisplayPort connectors on a single slot video card.

You can daisy chain multiple monitors with DisplayPort 1.2, and it has much more bandwidth than a Thunderbolt channel.

As an Apple investor I am dissapointed because I know how this looks to the inudstry: Apple has been pansted.

As an Apple enthusiast, I know Apple insists on marching to the beat of their own drummer. Let's just hope they march soon.

It makes sense. iProducts are increasingly becoming ubiquitous, therefore they will become more profitable for malware developers to attack. It's not a McAfee sales pitch so much as it's stating the obvious. Same with Android.

I agree, but at the same time Both Apple and Android use a Unix based OS. Unix based OS's are what run the internet (linux mainly). Their operating systems will be strong security wise by default. Because Unix is an open system, security holes are found and can be easily patched in the open source community, Apple and Android both benefit from using Unix based operating systems, because Unix based systems are also responsible for holding up the fundamental infrastructure of what we call the internet.

Also, android has free anti-virus scanners available in there market. Apple may have some too. I think mcafee is just trying to sell product, but if I was them i would want to sell my product to EVERY person who had Android or iOS based phone, simply because that is a VERY large user base.

I'll need to go back and read the thread and this has p-robably already been posted, but I think that the "big" iPod update was really weak. The other two got some major improvments and fig facelifts. The regular iPod got a resolution upgrade and a bigger hard drive. Woo. Pardon me for not being too excited.

You're not alone, a number of people have expressed their opinion that this is a weak update, but no one really seems to offer what they expected. How is it weak? Is is weak because it's not a touch screen wide aspect ratio iPod? What else can they do to these things short of coming out with a completely new design?

Apple will have to offer something extremely impressive and cutting edge to replace the 5G iPods, and they are surely working on it, but these things take time. One of the things we appreciate about Apple is that they don't normally put out buggy crap (MacBooks notwithstanding). We can forgive them that since they were needed quickly. So, if you want the ooh aah factor you will have to be patient.

I know all of us 5G iPod owners appreciate our iPods are not outdated just yet. I for one welcome the changes, my 5 year old appreciates PacMan, and the syncing between two computers is freaking awesome!!!!

Still lovin' my 2009 iMac.... best machine I've ever owned.

I'm with you! This gas been a great computer with few, if any, problems for me. I think I'll wait awhile so they can get HDs at a decent price that can hookup to Thunderbolt. I seem to run quite well at the speed I have now. Any increase wouldn't be noticed since I rarely encode videos.

Does anybody think there will be a blu-ray announcement?

Doubt it. The hardware is extremely expensive, nobody is excited about it, and there's still a pretty big risk that bluray won't even catch on, whether it's beat out by hddvd or if neither catches on. At this point, bluray would likely just get a big yawn from the public.

    what about enough built-in memory.

Most current phones have 64 MB of memory. According to actviity monitor, simple widgets like Gas, and Sol take between 6.2 - 8 MB of memory, where the more gui type of widgets take 20 - 32 MB of memory. Put that load on a typical phone with a OS and apps like iChat, iTunes, etc... It won't fly unless you can cram 1 GB into iPhone.

I think they need to learn how to do math. How can you have an 18.8% cumulative annual growth rate when your market share goes down from 15.7% to 15.3%?

Because the market as a whole is growing faster than Apple's own growth rate. The rate of Native American population growth could be 50% growth annually, but their share of the overall American population could still be stagnant or shrinking.

This has nothing to do with GPS or Location Services and turning those off won't change that. It also has nothing to do with tracking your whereabouts.

The file contains a log of the cell towers you connected to and when. That's it. This is why the dots are in grids that get bigger the as you leave populated areas and routinely include places you haven't been within 30 miles of.

This information is most likely used for connection quality monitoring and caching for Assisted GPS cold starts. It is also the same information stored by your cell phone provider no matter what phone you use. As such, "Big Brother" already has the ability to access to this information.

At this point, the only person potentially aided by this discovery is a suspicious spouse.

This is what I'm thinking; just need to wait to see what else comes out.

I really hope that you look back on this thread in a few years time and realise what a fool you've been mate. Your attitude is horrendous and your disregard for human life and emotion borders on psychopathic. I'm sure it's just youthful arrogance as I can recall being a bit of a prick when I was sixteen but I don't believe I ever intentionally endangered someone's life to "teach them a lesson".

A word of advice though fella: You keep that kind of behaviour up on the road and someone will "teach you a lesson" because I guarantee you that if you deliberately forced my wife and kid off of the road because you were acting like a dick whilst I was in the car, I'd have dragged you out of your car window by your throat and kicked the living **** out of you!

Here comes the "But you'd never catch me in my super duper fast car and mummy and daddy will sue you because we're all so important and so much better than you all"

    Grow up dude. Seriously.

Not much to be honest but hey, that's only my 2c.

People who are unable to distinguish between claiming that AV software is useless and OS X's degree of security usually have strong incentive$ to not make that distinction.

I remember back in the 2nd half of the 90's, HP came out with the dual Pentium II processor configuration, which only ran on NT. At the time I was administering a new Sparc network and we had a Sun 690MP with 4 ultra-Sparc processors. I thought is was cool that MS PC's had moved to multiple processors.

However, I was disappointed to learn that the 2nd processor could be only be used for little more than a coprocessor. So, I did some reading about the relationship of the Bus design, processor architecture and the OS. It made me appreciate Sparc a lot more.

Fast forward 10 years and it seems like I need to do some more reading. I would like to get current with what is being used today, and what may be in the pipeline for the next couple years.

I can search the web. But, I know some of you are very knowledgeable about this and may have a good source to recommend. Thanks.

    Hey everyone!

I finally converted my parents from an 8 year old PC that I built for them to an iMac...last week. Hearing the news that the new Sandy Bridge processors are due on Tuesday, what recourse do we have? Can we return the 21.5" for the new one? What sort of restocking fees, etc. would we incur?

    Thanks!

Lucky for you and your parents, Apple did away with the restocking fees just a few months ago. As long as you return it within the first 14 days, you shouldn't have any problems or pay any fees.

Because that huge base of thunderbolt based devices is overwhelming! :p

Gotta build the computers first for the devices to follow.

    I have a newbie question.
I plan on moving onto MAC OS (from Windows 7) but I wanted to wait for Lion, but I'm also quite impatient since the iMac is perfect for me.
Being new to Apple computers, would I be able to use Lion (like an upgrade) when it comes out?

Yes. Traditionally OS X upgrades cost $129, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was $99 or $79 this time around. Apple has been dropping their software prices lately.

Apple can recoup a portion of its payment if Creative is successful in licensing this patent to others.
This clause in the press release is very strange. Makes me wonder what price Creative would place on a license sale to Microsoft for its Zune and what Apple would recoup. Unless Microsoft can find a way to avoid infringing this patent, it effectively means that for every Zune sold, Apple will get some cash. Haha-hehe
    Look out Sandisk too.

Here in Sweden, the Police says that their goal is to increase safety, not catch people. I'd rather have a drunk driver stay at home because of an app warning of a checkpoint than get in the car and get caught.

So the reasons to buy if you live in GB include:
Housekeeping updates to the year old 5G iPod
No access to TV shows - but if you could they would be 60% brighter!!!
No access to movies - again potentially 60% brighter though
But best of all you can pay 260 for the 80GB version (only 70 more than those in America) or you can buy the 30GB version for 200 - a massive price drop of 10 and indeed the price that the Americans will pay for the 80GB iPod.
Yet another great endorsement for Apple international PR - and to be honest I agree with the whole dont blame the company thing but with a little knowledge of import tax and the fact that other services allow downloads of their programing in the UK - it is genuinely Apple that are lacking here to support their non US fan-base!
