Call me clumsy or whatever, but I hate the 'corners': I accidentally trigger them all the time on a frien's machine. Mostly because I use the Apple menu a lot. I DO miss the old mouse's side buttons/center button!

Even at that level it's a real PITA. Seriously, not only it pops up way too often, but it slows down installations. Some older computers and netbooks just freeze for several minutes after trying to open large installers, while UAC is analyzing or something.
Regarding the first point, that's not true at all. There's no reason you should be seeing it in normal use on a day to day basis. It's the same as in OS X. Regarding the latter...I haven't had that happen, but I did see on GOG.com they mentioned that it can take a while with large installers on some systems with that on.

Weren't they just updated in October? Yes it may be closer, but not for a while yet considering the last update was over a year. :rolleyes:
the sandy bridget turbo boost will give good CPU performance upgrade from current MBA
but with lower GPU performance
mostly more battery life also, so it is due for refresh as well, MBA is currently selling well, so will receive a nice upgrade cycle compared to the old MBAs cycles (one year minimum)

Not trying to force this mentality on anyone, but for ME: No Ivy Bridge, no care.
I'm sure it'll be a great machine though just like the current one. It's just not enough difference to make me upgrade. (Just like iPad 1 to iPad 2)

I, with all of my first year Aeronautical Engineering Uni experience say a Mini Mac Pro is possible. :D :cool:
I think it would be really cool if it had support for a kentsfield or conroe if it's possible, as well as future support as well. It should also have four RAM slots. Two Hard Drive bays, and two PCI Extreme slots. All for under 2 grand Australian currency, so I can buy a 23" screen and a Macbook for about AU$5G, and I'll be one very happy, and very poor individual.
Four cores would be fantastic for working with Matlab for Uni.

Crap... I just ordered a 27" iMac from store.apple.com Friday morning. It hasn't shipped yet as i did some custom changes. I am going to call in the morning to see if I can hopefully cancel the order. I also purchased a 27" Cinema Display but that has already shipped. And doesn't look like it is in this upgrade round.
If it has not been 'prepared for shipment', you can still cancel the item online.

If Apple thought that Creatives patent was bogus, they would have NOT paid. 100 million dollars is a lot of cash, no matter how you slice it. If the patent was bogus, and they still paid, Apple would be sending other companies a message that said "Want some cash? Sue us with bogus patents, we'll gladly pay!". No, Apple paid because they felt that they were really infringing and that if they had proceedd with the lawsuit, they would have lost a lot more than 100 million.

Apple's taken gambles in the legal process before and lost (see: Microsoft GUI case). Steve doesn't want to go through that again, so he pays off Creative. Then, being Steve, he somehow uses his RDF to get Creative to join the licensing program, which has the potential to MAKE APPLE MONEY off of this deal.
Did Apple "win" this? Of course not. They're still out 100 million. But they also came out with some interesting deals that make this not a total loss.
And finally, to answer your statement in the first paragraph: This is EXACTLY why the patent system IS messed up. Because it DOES send a message of "hey we filed this patent for something blatantly obvious, give us some money" In most cases, it will be cheaper to settle. Thus companies end up using Patents, rather than products, as a money-maker.

I have no idea how this would be useful. Buffer times, connection loss, no WiFi around, these are all problems that will prevent this from working.

Apart from the word serach not being on 5GiPod, only the new 5GiPod has it (but seem that this is incorect, proberly some hidden option to enable).
It dose 640x480 h.264 when updated to 1.2 but still need to find out if it dose games as well as the new improved video size.

I believe the article you refer to is from the '90's. Regardless, blaming fuel efficiency is a typically American attitude. Why not blame the glut of giant SUVs on the road rather than the small cars? Are countless numbers of EU citizens dying because of their tiny tin-foil cars? Oh noes! :eek:
and SuperCachetes, I was under the impression that US jobs were going out of the country bc we can't afford Union price tags. But if you "think" making labor more expensive will spur hiring, then keep "thinking" that with your "brain" ;)

Microsoft doesn't really play in the consumer / gadget / toy market, which simply means that you don't get to see most of their products unless you work in a corporate data center. And unlike Apple, Microsoft -has- data center / server products that people WANT to use and that are years ahead of the pack (Sharepoint Portal Server, Exchange Server, SQL Server, Terminal Services, just to name a few) - and a LOT of their RD goes there.
This sounds like "sour grapes."
Also, nobody here should kid themselves - Microsoft still OWNS the desktop and office suite markets. Around a BILLION computers run their software, and even most Macs are dead in the water without Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft Windows (in Boot Camp, Parallels, Fusion, VirtualBox).
That's the whole point. Microsoft owns the desktop and office suite markets, yet, Microsoft is unwilling to move on to markets that have more potential to grow.
So Apple was more profitable in the last quarter. Big deal. Somebody with enough time on their hands might want to analyze the spending behavior and amount of staff and level of salaries to find out -WHY- that was the case. Maybe the guys at Microsoft have higher salaries and more vacation. Maybe Ballmer put more money into RD and marketing than in the last quarter. Maybe they bought more startups than before.

Say there was a stand 'Mac Users for Bush' at a show. I might think, 'That's odd' or I might have said, 'Bush is a ********' if one of them gave me a leaflet but I wouldn't try to get them booted out of the show because I don't have a problem with free speech and free debate.
Let's not be naive - Greenpeace were ejected because certain elements didn't like an activist group planting negative images of Apple in the Mac market's heads and so had them removed. It was nothing to do with the leaflets - they were censored. It's fine if you take an authoritarian 'anyone can be censored on private property' stance but don't claim it's because Greenpeace caused any kind of unacceptable incident.
