Wow, I didnt even realize they took CUT away

They didn't, you're being trolled when someone says you can't cut text.

Files, in Finder, that's another thing, and quite annoying. This is the only place that the comments about Mac OS X lacking cut functionality have any relevance.

Man, stop it with the cloud service already. You can't rely on the internet availability for listening to music. It's unreliable. Plus, the streaming will probably be low resolution, drain battery life, eat into data caps, not display lyrics, and generally be a crappy experience. If I wanted to stream, I can do it from my home computer where my music already resides with one of the 100 apps already available and not have to fight through all the bandwidth issues that are probably gonna result from Apple's side. What's the point? I can do this now.

Of course what we really need if more friggin' flash memory on our devices! Apple's been stuck on 32 GB on the iPhone for almost 3 years!

I think the clintob poster who is talking about Africa's problem just isn't explaining himself very well. U2 African AIDS charity is good, but it won't come near to solving the problems of Africa and it isn't just because it won't produce enough money, but it will mainly be because it wont be able to change Africa's culture.

Africa is the most backwards continent in the world.. it has for the most part retained its history and culture.. stubbornly refusing to evolve their history and culture to follow the rest of the world into the 20th and 21st century. Now Africa is paying the price with massive poverty, civil wars and the AIDS epidemic. Its Africa's culture that is causing the AIDS epidemic.. to stop the spread of AIDS in Africa you must destroy Africa's culture.. clintob is saying that those who follow Africa's culture and refuse to change will die and should die because they refused to evolve.

For instance I read an TIME article where a popular 'cure' in a African country for AIDS was for the man to have sex with a VIRGIN!! Even though certified doctor's were running around all the villages in this country saying that it wasn't a cure that they would only spread the disease. Nobody listened to the doctors.. Why you may ask.. because the shamans said that the doctors were quacks and that the cure was to sleep with a virgin. Needless to say last time I checked that country had over 50% of its people with AIDS. I think they said 75% or so.

I can belief this. Nokia is a strong brand and will definitely have a large impact on WP7 marketshare. The phone market does'nt revolve around the States.

Completely agree... Cost is a huge factor that will really come in to play here.

I understand where you are coming from. With your feet planted in set in concrete, unable to fathom future developments based on the experimental or high-end tech of the day, the Blu-Ray seems endlessly of value. Much like the tape reels of the 60s.

The BluRay is going away for one very specific reason: mechanical. By 2016 the flash memory chips for 50gb will probably be so everyday and cheap that bulky, mechanical BluRay will seem awkward. By 2019 I'd bet you can store several times more than a BluRay on medium-priced thumb-drive.

Proof? Look back 6 years when a 1gb thumb-drive was a huge chunk of cash. Look back 10 years when a 512MB thumb-drive was almost prohibitive to buy. The future is non-mechanical.

perhaps, don't take it the wrong way but when people buy machines today, they also intend to use it for all the days leading up to the point where you can get 1 TB flashdrives for a few bucks.

The cost of litigation would not even remotely approached 100 million. The cost of losing (ie, having a judgement against apple), now that would have probably exceeded 100 million. When a company is not sure about it's position, the best thing is to settle. You don't see IBM settling their Linux suit, do you?. And SCOunix hasn't even paid close to 100 mil in lawyers fees yet and they are fighting a losing battle..

I think you are seriously underestimating how expensive these type of patent battles can be. Check out the following story:

    http://www.internetnews.com/bus-news/article.php/3402321

Regarding its ongoing legal battles with IBM (Quote, Chart) and Novell over Linux code claims, SCO announced an agreement with its legal firm that would cap its legal costs at $31 million. As part of the deal, SCO's legal firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner could be awarded between 20 and 33 percent of any potential settlement that may arise from SCO's claims.

So SCO obviously expected its legal costs to spiral beyond $31 million to make a special deal with its law firm to cap costs. The fact they are willing to give as much as 33% of any potential winnings with the legal firm indicates that the final tally could easily approach $100 million if not for the cap.

It is quite clear that Apple would have made life very, very expensive and excruciating for Creative's legal team. $100 million in legal costs is not unrealistic considering that you not only had the original suit, but countersuits by Apple involving 4 bonafide patents.

If you compare their investment in R&D to what they manage to churn out, it's pretty sad.

That can be viewed another way. Apple is too cheap to bother risking anything that is not a sure bet.

MS willing to risk R&D and a lot of R&D on things that might be a dead end.
MS R&D is more like a university Research compared to Apple R&D that is only about profit.
Guess which one adds more better for the people. Correct answer is not Apple

    What about "Burger Store" ?

Let's say you have a conversation with a friend like this "I'd really like a burger right now. " "Ok, where shall we go? " "To the nearest xxx, of course!". Which of these could you imagine saying without your friend thinking you are weird:

I've been debating whether to get the iPad 2 or a 11.6" MBA. I currently own the original iPad but thought I would invest a little more and get a nice MBA instead of the iPad 2. I hope they add illuminated keyboards along with this upgrade.

When the new version comes out, the iMac you bought won't be any slower..

GeekBench 2 benchmarks http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2011/02/macbookpro-benchmarks-early-2011/ of the new MBPs with Sandy Bridge would indicate otherwise. This review said: "....the fastest MacBook Pro is 80% faster than the fastest previous-generation MacBook Pro.". My guess is a similar situation might be true for the iMac and it will be faster ( otherwise, there's little point to a rev )

I can't see how those of us wanting to hook things up to our 27" iMac could be a that small group. I'm more inclined to believe this limitation has to do with Apple protectionism. I mean, like I said in a post a few pages up, there are no industry standard input ports (HDMI/DVI...) and the TB port is limited to only a small fraction of a ppm of the input devices on the market.

Sure hoping for a way to work arond Apple on this one, without going the usual Apple route - with a gazillion adapters.

Yep- I agree. There should always be one legacy port on a device. Mini display port would be the one.

why would I want to pay someone $17 an hour to a job a monkey is almost qualified to do? Sounds like an opportunity to hire less people, or jack my prices up. A job is worth simply what a job is worth. Period. If I'm trying to offer services at competitive prices, and someone is willing to bag groceries for $3 an hour, then they should be ALLOWED to. Rather than me just choose to hire nobody and using automated checkouts.

What happens then? More people find jobs, and prices go down. $3 dollars suddenly buys you a subway sandwich. # of consumers goes up bc more people are employed, which brings in more revenue, causes more hiring etc.

Also, people who do want to make $10 bucks an hour are forced to either be productive or learn something useful, which is good for everyone, plus that $10 is worth more now bc of deflation. Deflation would also drive interest rates on loans down bc the money you pay back is worth more.

Best case scenario, taxes are low at this point, and the government isn't a handout machine, so people feel the need to donate to an EFFICIENT charity. Rather than to the government, which is the most inefficient entity on the planet.

Overall result: More buying power, lower unemployment, more substantial and efficient charity, more innovation.

OR we can take away every incentive to be productive (France) and have a GDP smaller than the interest payments on the national debt (France in 2020)

I'd say since the high point of post WWII, we as a society in the U.S. have done our best to eradicate The New Deal and move back to reaching for magnificant wealth while screwing each other over.?

really? we've been getting LESS progressive since the new deal? I was under the impression that our government is GIGANTIC and tries to babysit us at every turn while simultaneously urinating on the constitution

    No kidding right?

My buddy and I went boarding 2 days ago and he dislocated his finger (looked bad as it was all bent funny)

Anyways, took him to the clinic and was charged 1300 bucks to put it back into place and he doesnt have health insurance

Heaven forbid one needs surgery or broke a leg or anything more than dislocating a finger....would need a few million stashed away

Or perhaps a steady job mingled in with some tort reform, or a private charity willing to foot the bill if he were unemployed.

However, I don't know if boarding is the best option when you're unemployed

The more paranoid might suggest that oil companies are collaborating with auto makers and the government to keep efficiency as low as they can get away with. Remember, the record for fuel economy was set in the mid 70s in a slightly modified Opel: something like 237 miles on a gallon (US) of gasoline. Highly idealized conditions no doubt, but my goodness, the average automobile today should be at least a third of the way there.

US government regulations for increasing gas efficiency has resulted in car companies making vehicles lighter at rate beyond evolving the technology to maintain safety, which has resulted in an average of 10,000 avoidable deaths per year since the early 70's

But hey, maybe that fraction of environmental impact we have that's causing that fraction of a global degree change might have been marginally altered. Maybe. And it's only cost us ~300,000 lives so far. Thank you government! Just tack that onto the millions you killed by restricting DDT use, and you can further brag about your death toll

What is this supposed to show? That US corporations are more profitable? Is that a good thing? For whom?

Stock owners in these companies. Which are made up of middle class citizens

Ridiculous? Not quite, from the parent's perspective.

In Canada we have 12 months maternity leave, which can be taken by either spouse, or split, 6 months/6 months.

Yeah man, one of my biggest incentives to put my money on the line and open a small business is that I have the opportunity to pay someone to not work for a year.

Or maybe in that transaction I'll get to use the government as a middle man via taxes, and I'll end up spending %30 more in order to maintain its inefficiency

The San Diego news says the robbers were shooting at him, so I think his life was in danger. :-) 40 rounds of exchanged fire.

Chula Vista is NOT La Jolla.

If you don't want to be shot, don't rob a store and better yet don't rob a store carrying a gun with other people carrying guns.

I'm as pro gun rights as anyone, but this sounds like a problem for the security guard. Unless that guard's life was in danger, there was no reason to shoot anyone, especially in the head. The placement of that shot was no accident.

That being said, I'm sure there are a lot of facts we don't know. Innocent until proven guilty, of course.

RAM & HD - are not worth the effort it takes to swap them out yourself. I'd gladly pay an extra $50 to already have it done.

HD - I'd agree with you plus you void the warranty doing it yourself.

RAM - Disagree. Definitely worth the effort to do it yourself. OWC or Crucial for RAM. OWC has RAM rebate for sending in your old RAM. It takes 5 minutes.....
