I'm going to risk the ire of the maddening crowd once more, but I think somebody needs to come to Apple's defense this time. I love a good mob scene as much as the next guy, and I keep my pitchfork nice and sharp just in case the need should arise. But… the picture that Rogue Amoeba has painted in their farewell post doesn't look quite so black and white to me. Certainly, Apple could have handled many things about the situation better, but so could have Rogue Amoeba.
I definitely can see both sides of the argument. And I speak from personal experience. One of my company's apps, CraigsHarvest, was rejected for a similar reason: we had included a cropped version of the Setting app icon in our help file, in order to better direct our users to where to changes their settings. But Apple rejected it because we were using their icon. So, we complied and removed its usage.
But there has to be some kinda happy, middle-ground here. There already are a number of Apple-owned icons that we are allowed (in fact, encouraged) to use, such as Compose, Action, Bookmark (see below attached images). Maybe Apple could expand the range of images, icons, etc. they own that we, as developers, could be allowed to use.

Apple is doing extremely we'll in a lot of markets. Microsoft does well in the corporate market but they are not flashy or innovative in terms of their core market. Microsoft does well because corporations have settled on Windows / Office combination. Since it does well for their purposes, it is enough to sustain them.
Congratulations to Apple for doing so well but do not feel bad for Microsoft.
1)Most of what you wrote is true...but there is so much more to Microsoft being successful on just Windows and/or Office as well as MS and Apple have completely different business models. MS has been extremely successful with SQL Server for decades. Windows is more than just Windows in the business world. Apple is and has been non existent in the business world since Apple's birth. MS has numerous small business packages. Apple has none. MS has a huge Services team. Apple has none. MS has ventured into hardware accessories for decades (mice, keyboards, etc) and probably still makes a hefty profit there. MS has also dabbled into consumer electronics hardware with Xbox (wildly successful) and Zune (terribly bad). Again, these aren't cuts on Apple nor am I rooting for MS...but there simply is no comparison.
2)MS has been innovative for a very long time. Last few years?...in my opinion? Not really.
I'm glad Apple is doing very well and hopefully Apple will some day lower their iMac prices a few hundred bucks so I can have a prettier web surfing machine compared to my Dell. I'll never steer away from iPods. And very likely I will buy an iPhone 5 to replace my 3GS...unless Apple takes too long and/or charges too much compared to the 25+ Android models I can choose from.

Apple Insider was saying the movie price would be $14.99 -I would not pay that much to watch a movie on a small screen... no way, unless I had a hour long commute to work on a train... can't believe there are that many people like that out there!
This may be on the rosy side, but I assume that $14.99 for new titles and $9.99 for catalog titles means higher resolution. Otherwise, a movie is 7x the cost of a TV episode with no added value, which just doesn't sound like something Apple would do.
The higher resolution would allow you to (somehow) play the episode directly to your TV and burn a copy on DVD. The biggest problem is size. It would take as long to download a 2-hour movie in HD (or even SD) as it would to watch it.
I hope Apple gets this movie thing right.

I never said my actions were morally right. I'll admit that my actions are probably very immoral, and ethically wrong. The simple fact is I don't care about how people view my morality or ethics. Why should I care what people think of me. I never said it bothers me that you guys are not agreeing with me, all I said is that I find it laughable.

Bottom line: Creative knew this was a BS patent, too, but they figured they had to try. However, when the patent was granted to them, they had a weapon in their war against the iPod. Rather than concentrate on making a better product, they used this weapon as a way to get some quick cash. They bet on Apple settling and not going to court.
In the meantime, MS comes in and announces Zune, which threatens other WMA compatible players like Creative's offerings. Creative now thinks they need a backup plan and decides that during the negotiations with Apple, they can get them to give them a license to produce iPod-approved products. Now they have a fallback incase their own offerings fizzle out.
The question is: Will they go after Microsoft, too? It would be hypocritical not to, after all.
Many people are speculating they go after ms they have/will to go after Archos, Cowon, iRiver, Samsung, Sandisk and Toshiba.
Maybe creative maybe nice enough to give ipod some their X-Fi technology? This could be a good thing on both sides.

Microsoft should work on perfecting windows before starting a mobile OS
How long have you used Windows 7? Is it giving you a lot of problems? I have read nothing but good things about it. Please share.
Windows 7 kicks ass, it's every bit as good as Snow Leopard if not better.
Windows 7 is an excellent product. VS Snow Leopard, personal preference. They are both excellent.
When Windows starts to come close to SL in terms of ease of use and functionality let me know ;)

Apple could easily implement it, but they choose not to. Its another one of those "One button Mouse" deals, where Apple is being obstinate.
Windows 7 is a much better OS than its predecessors, but to claim it does the "little things" better than SL is so hilarious I don't know how to respond. There is literally no consistency between anything. Just go to the Control Panel, and while clicking dialogs you will be transported between windows that look like they are modern Web Pages (especially the network panels, with blinking computers) and panels that looked like they haven't realized that Windows 95 is obsolete yet.
Windows 7 is a UI and usability nightmare (compared to SL, although much better than Vista). What I do give credit to MS for is that its security model is rock solid (probably better than Linux and most Unixes). Mac OS X has fallen behind in security. This, however, is not that big an issue anymore, IMO, because all OS security is complex enough that attackers are relying on OS vulnerabilities less, and Social Engineering more to gain access. Again, Windows's bad (and more important in this context, horribly inconsistent over the years) UI has made its users more vulnerable to such attacks.
Why get all butt hurt because Windows is a good product and has it's advantages just like OSX? You're free to chose which is best for you.

No more than $2,499/ �1,799. With the amount of internal room you would get behind a 23" monitor, Apple would have no problem putting in 4 RAM slots and a fast GPU (but I doubt Apple would do a fast GPU anyway).

The real question is why MS is so bothered about Apple using 'App Store'. Historically MS (almost) never used the word App, instead using the word Programs. Surely MS can come up with many alternatives that describe their own store equally well, if not better. Why fight with Apple over this? I can only conclude that it is to spite Apple, or to ride Apple's coat tails yet again.
Even if MS is right, logically, linguistically, I find their attitude over this rather puerile. PR-wise it says to me "Apple, if we can't imitate you, we'll sue you"

Perfect. That works for me 'cause if Apple doesn't present a redesigned MBP with an easy access HD Bay, I'm definitely going C2D MacBook. Already "bought" a pair of 2.5" external USB 2 cases today - for FREE after rebate - in anticipation of removing the stock drive and replacing it with a Seagate 160. :)
