Talk about a punt. This has to be for a show car....right?
That's a tough one. You'd think it was...but since it's so ugly you'd hope that it wasn't.

It is exactly the same. I even tried putting my iMac on the DMZ in my router to see whether a totally exposed machine helps, but not so.
You are running a Apple router and I am running a Linksys with the stock firmware. I will screw around a bit more in both my mac and the router and see whether I can sort something out and keep you guys posted.
Your settings match the Photos posted on page 1? PM me your ichat/AIM name.

I bought iWork '05 instead of Office X, and it can't compare. Word is just an easier, more powerful word processor to use. I prefer keynote to powerpoint, but not by much. I would definetely rate word higher than pages, and office higher than iwork. Powerpoint is definetely usable, but use mail+address book+iCal instead of entourage (way better).

Unfortunately, your only choices are to stay at 3.2 or update to 4.3.2. Apple is no longer allowing 4.3.1 to be installed. There's a way to get around this restriction, but to do so you need to have SHSH saved, and since you just got your replacement device from Apple, there wouldn't be any SHSH saved for it.
To replicate your old iPad's settings onto the replacement iPad, you restore from the old iPad's backup. Right click on the iPad icon on the left-hand column in iTunes, and you'll see a menu option saying "restore form bakcup." However, backups from newer firmware sometimes don't work on older firmware, so you might need to update to 4.3.2 in order to restore from your old iPad's backup.
Personally, I'd update and wait for a JB for 4.3.2, hopefully it won't take too long for it to come out.

I just got an LG VX 7000 as a Hanukkah present, (my parents said - pick a new cell phone under 200, get a new contract, we'll buy the phone) and I feel the need to review this product as many people don't know much about it.
I grade cell phones based on the following:
Ease of use/menus
Graphic interface
Battery life
Audio quality
Screen quality
Quality of additional features
Design
East of use/menus: The LG VX 7000 uses a creative tabbed menu system that sometimes reminds me of a web browser. While completely uncomplicated, you might have to go through a multitude of menus to find what you want.
Pro User: A
Grandparent: B
Graphic Interface: The beautiful and crisp GUI really enhances the value of this phone. The startup graphics are incredible, and this displays pics well.
Pro User: A+
Grandparent: A+
Battery Life: For a color phone, this is a big improvement on earlier LG models. It will definately get you through the day and evening on a charge, if not last through the night and the better part of the following day depending on usage. Also, there are four battery bars instead of three, which makes it easier to have a range without guessing where you are.
Pro User: A
Grandparent: A+
Audio Quality: The audio is clear and beautiful. The ringers are loud and you can certainly hear them - no need to use vibrate unless you're at work/school etc. Calls are excellent, but that's also partly Verizon.
Pro User: A
Grandparent: A
Screen Quality: The screen is large enough for anyone to see and you have options for text size. It is clear and crisp. The outside screen is of a slightly lower quality, but unless you're displaying photos on it, it's not going to matter.
Pro User: A
Grandparent: A-
Quality of Additional Features: The phone is just that, a phone. Verizon's mobile web works nicely but is not very impressive - I don't use it and cancelled that service. This is a phone, not a camera, but if you're lucky, you might get a nice shot or two for your background. The video records audio nicely if you're close enough, and 15 second is enough for a decent clip.
Pro User: B
Grandparent: A
Design: This phone is sleek and stylish. There was a blue model, but now it's just black with Verizon, and the phone seems to be of high-quality and fairly durable material. The only major design flaw is not having a way to close the lens on the camera, we'll have to see how well that holds up....

Wow.. $170 is expensive. I can see Apple cracking down on this pretty quickly. Apple have to keep the cell phone providers happy - *country dependant* - these aren't going to be happy with customers unlocking their phones while on contract.

There is no need to use a "Standard" account (what you call "user"), running the Mac as an admin is just fine. Many do this and experience no problems. I have run Mac OS X for seven years via admin accounts and have had not any problems with that.
If something needs access to system critical files or folders, it will ask for your admin password anyway.

On the doc front: not sure. I've got a few feature ideas in my head but haven't had the motivation (sitting in a dull edit bay isn't conducive to creativity) to flesh them out. I have several friends who are freelancers who would join me to form a team and they all do different parts of pre/post production (budgeting, planning, grant writing, etc). So between us we have a few ideas, just takes time to research and form a treatment to present to potential investors and contributors. It'll be exciting though. I've been wanting to quit for a while, but knew about the end of the show so I waited for them to give me a severance.

A relative has an eMac, and I've been using her Sound Studio which comes installed. Now I have bought a Mac Mini and was saddened to discover Sound Studio does not come installed. With all the extra bells and whistles my "innexpensive" mini came to $850+... you'd think they could have included this one program
Would there be a way to get this pgm into the mac mini off the emac installation discs? I opened the emac disc 1 on the mini and did the "go to folder" thing (/volumes/ disc name /System/Installation/Packages/)
to see the installation packages, but sound studio was not there among the dozen or so choices.
There was a package listed called "additional software" in the directory but I'm hesitant to launch that. For disc 2, I could not discern the right "go to folder" path to get it to display other than a pdf saying "go to disc 1."
Any ideas? Or is all this a bit risky/dodgy?

As expected. I didn't expect anything major considering the drastic change from the 3GS to the 4.

As with all Apple computers purchased just before the release of a new OS, a drop in disk will be found in older models still on shelves after the release and you will be given an opportunity to get a free or severely discounted copy of the new OS if purchased in Apple's determined timeframe. I bought a Mac Mini about 30 days before Snow Leopard came out and was able to get SL for free.

If they truly plan to release a new device, not about the music, but designed for video users, then who cares about one hand? When you have the attention available to be watching video, you probably have two hands available too (at least I hope you're not watching this while driving). I think the interface could be very awesome and extremely easy to use if someone could get the engineering right to ignore accidental input and always respond to intentional input.

i guess i am the only one that finds this a bit wierd. and rubs me the wrong way. so somewhere in googles databases my life is recorded on where and when i was there? i bet the government would love to get a handle on that.
:(
Yep, I'm with you on that. It already bugs me that my Prius has a black box for accidents and a GPS built in (for the nav system.) Why do we *trust* this government to not ask companies to turn that information over (just like they asked for our phone records) and for these corporations getting billions in tax incentives to eagerly comply? Now if you carry a GPS, government will be able to know where you are at any moment. I'm not buying it unless Apple includes a pledge with the product that they will fight to protect my legal rights if any government agency asks for these records without probable cause.

Yeah, once I plug in my iPod, it's completely unresponsive for the first 2-3 minutes. I think I noticed that once my iPod sync is complete, it then becomes responsive again.

2 sticks of 1 GB PC 2700 SDRAM is what you need, officially Apple claims 1 GB to be the max not sure if 2 GB is possible without some sort of software/firmware modification.

I can't believe people actually fell for it =/
His videos for one could have been 10 seconds long, start cydia, show the bottom lines, done. Not to arse about for 2 minutes filming the edges of the iPad and showing multitouch gestures - yet stops swiping the screen before he gets to cydia.
Even the audio tracks in both of his videos were a dead give away...

I was studying for a test the next day. My mate came running up the stairs of our flat and said "Screw the studying guys, the world's just come to an end!". We ended up spending the rest of the day watching the news.
